Event Description
The Martin Luther King Organizing Committee highlights faculty involvement in social justice efforts as both citizens and scholars.  Two noon-time discussions have been planned for Martin Luther King Celebration Week.

Tuesday, January 22, 12:10 p.m. U.C. 308
Faculty from Psychology Professors Gordon Moskowitz, Mike Gill, Christopher Burke and Dominic Packer will discuss their work in areas relevant to social justice issues.  The research of these professors has included unconscious influences on stereotyping; community, compassion and social explanation; psychological framing of stressful life events; and moral decision-making and dissent.

Thursday, January 24 at 12:10 p.m. U.C.308
Professors Vera Fennell, Corrine Post, Stephanie Powell Watts and Lloyd Steffen will speak to issues important to their research, including global race, ethnicity and migration; diversity management and racial, gender and ethnic differences in individual work experiences; African-American literature and creative writing; and King’s nonviolence as a constrained and rule-governed use of force.

Participating faculty will comment on their work in the social justice area for a few minutes, but then pose some questions for a more general discussion that would involve other faculty panelists and the audience.  Lunch will be available at both sessions.
This event is open to the entire Lehigh community and all are welcome.
